"fine tune up and out (a part)"
*first published in The Marbled Sigh
This poem comes from a story I heard Twiggy tell on the first season of The Muppet Show.
 &  When
I first conceived this project, I originally thought every poem would be spaced
similarly to this poem.  I wanted to really
use blank space as a message, and thinking about a collection of collages and
puzzles, I thought that the spaces would symbolize all the missing thoughts and
connections between ideas and words themselves, as well as with the reader, U & I.  I also thought it would create
more breath for a slower read.  With more
time and writing, I felt this idea was unsuccessful and decided it was unnecessary.  However, I kept it with this muppoem, finding it to be the only one so far where I found exaggerated space to be effective.  The poem hints at a fragmented story, but overall is a mood. Hopefully the
spacing creates a sense of drifting movement.

 & This
is also a muppoem that has a very direct connection with another muppoem.  "Part 2" connects with Phyllis
Diller's episode of The Muppet Show.
"PART 2: about face" is more densely packed with sentences and
convoluted thoughts as the narrator, at an older age, faces the ego.
